Q: Where is RukaGym located and how do I get there?
A: RukaGym is located in Ruka village on the western slopes, on the lowest floor of the Kumpare shopping center, at the rear of the building on the same level as the parking garage. We are located below the K-market. You can enter either
1. from the slope side: next to the Ruka tourist information (info point) there are stairs two floors down (no elevator).
2. from the slope side: via the shopping center’s north-side entrance between Brand Willage Shop and Riipinen’s luggage store, two floors down by stairs or elevator.
3. from the back of the shopping center (behind the parking area barrier) there is a door that leads directly to the gym door. This door is also used when the shopping center is closed. There is a code reader on the door; you can enter every day from 05:00 to 23:00 with the code.
Q: When is the gym accessible?
A: Every day from 05:00 to 23:00. You can buy a membership (e.g., single visit) in the online store at any time and you will receive the access code immediately by email and text message. The code works immediately. When the shopping center is closed, enter via the back door.
Q: Is it possible to get a trial visit?
A: In exceptional cases: if you have moved to the Ruka area (for example for work) or are staying longer and are considering a longer-term membership, a trial visit can be arranged by appointment. This always requires a phone agreement (040 503 3612). If you are visiting Ruka for a short stay and only plan to train briefly, a free trial visit cannot be granted. You can arrange to view the gym by agreement; make arrangements by phone. Our website has many photos of the gym and a complete equipment list, which give an excellent impression in advance.
Q: Can I buy a membership (e.g., single visit) for another person through my profile?
A: No. Memberships, including single visits, 10-visit passes and week passes, are personal. The membership must be purchased in the name of the person who will be training. This is due to safety, supervision and technology (access control system). The system treats multiple purchases for the same user so that only the most recently purchased will be checked off first on the first visit. Subsequent codes cannot be used within 3 hours. This protects a person’s purchased visits from being accidentally consumed.
Q: Why do I have to register when buying a membership and is it necessary?
A: Registration is not strictly necessary if you are training with a single-visit code. An anonymous single-visit code can be purchased from Ruka Tourist Information. Note the tourist info opening hours (https://www.ruka.fi/fi/palvelut-ja-yhteystiedot/ruka-info).
Registration is generally recommended so we know who uses the gym — this is necessary, for example, to prevent misuse.
Q: Why must I provide so much information when registering?
A: Currently the customer management system requires quite extensive information because it is designed to handle all kinds of memberships, including billable long-term memberships. This will change so that, for example, a single-visit buyer will not need to provide extensive registration details. The change is expected hopefully by the end of 2026.
Q: Are there changing rooms at the gym?
A: Yes. The changing rooms are one floor above the gym at the south end of the facility, by the tourist information.
Q: Are there shower facilities and do they cost extra?
A: Yes. Both the women’s and men’s changing rooms have several showers and toilets. Use of the changing rooms and shower facilities is free for RukaGym members. The same changing and shower facilities can also be used by, for example, slope customers; a fee is charged from them at the tourist information.
Q: Are there lockable lockers at the gym?
A: Yes. The lockers are suitable for storing personal items such as handbags, wallets, keys, earbud cases, phones, etc. They are not intended for storing clothing. Lockable lockers must not be used to store personal items after training. Keys to lockers must not be taken outside the gym.
Q: Is it possible to get a discounted membership?
A: In summer 2026 we will introduce youth-discounted options for single visits, week passes and 10-visit passes. These memberships can only be purchased in person at the tourist information (INFO point), because the buyer must prove age and identity. No service fee will be charged for youth memberships purchased at the info desk. The youth discount applies to under-17s. There is a special local discount for Ruka lower secondary school students for long memberships and 10-visit packs.
Q: How do I cancel a membership?
A: You can cancel an open-ended membership by email: info@rukagym.fi. Note that the notice period for an open-ended membership is 1 month, meaning one full monthly billing period follows the cancellation moment.
Q: How is membership billing handled?
A: By default, billing is monthly to the email address you provided during registration. You can also set up an e-invoice agreement in your online bank. Search for the e-invoice payee Sandscape Oy/RukaGym and follow your bank’s instructions. The invoice payer can also be, for example, an employer, another person (e.g., a guardian), and it is possible to pay for a whole year at once. These arrangements require contacting and agreeing with us: info@rukagym.fi or 040 503 3612. Invoices can also be paid in advance through your RukaGym user account.
Q: Can I pay my membership with a sports benefit (e.g., ePassi, Smartum, Edenred, EazyBreak)?
A: Yes. In the online store, the direct payment options currently available are ePassi and Smartum. Edenred and EazyBreak are not direct payment options yet, but you can still pay with them. This requires contacting RukaGym or visiting the tourist information.
Q: I have already received an invoice — can I pay it with other payment methods than bank transfer?
A: Yes. Already issued invoices (you have received the invoice by email/online bank) can be paid before the due date at the tourist information or by contacting RukaGym by email or phone. The easiest way to arrange non-bank-transfer payment is to agree on it in advance before the invoice is issued.
Q: Where are the gym’s lost-and-found items kept?
A: Low-value lost items are placed on display near the counter by the gym’s sofa area, on the window-side end. More valuable items are taken either to Ruka Tourist Information (info) or kept by gym staff for follow-up contact. You can inquire about lost items from RukaGym (info@rukagym.fi or 040 503 3612) and from Ruka Tourist Information.
Q: How large is the gym and what equipment is available?
A: The gym offers just under 400 m2 of training space. Equipment is very versatile. You can find many photos and a complete list of equipment and gear on our website.
